Honeymoon Reviews

Our experience was wonderful at Sofitel Marara. Other than the incidence with the power cord, we couldn't have asked for a better honeymoon. We were whisked away once we arrived at the resort. We sat back and relaxed while we were checked in. They told us about everything that was going on, such as for dinners (themes/entertainment). They gave us our information for check out right away so we'd have the rest of the stay without any distractions. We had a hostess bring us to our room and show us where everything was and what to do if we had questions. We also received a fresh fruit basket and Tiki statue because we were on our honeymoon. We were able to plan our activities at one desk and they had plenty of information to give us. The resort made all of the arrangements and they gave us departure times and took care of transportation. We went scuba diving a few times, went to Bloody Mary's for dinner (a must go), an island tour on an outrigger canoe (snorkeling with sharks and sting rays), and shopping in Viatape. The servers/waitresses were much friendlier on Bora Bora than the other 2 islands we visited (Tahiti and Moorea). Even though they didn't speak fluently in English, they tried their best for us. One bartender even gave us 2 free beers on our last night because she was sad to see us leave. The bungalows were very sucluded and felt like noone else was around. We had a garden view bungalow and liked it better than the beach front bungalows because there was too much traffic in that area. We were told the resort was full, but it felt like there was noone else around, which made it feel more romantic. At dinner a lot of people showed up, so it had to have been close to capacity. The beach was a little disappointing though. We had heard that you could snorkel off the beach, but there wasn't good snorkeling. The beach was a little small, but beautiful views. Also, to go over to Sofitel Motu (on a small island) you either had to A.Have a $80 per person dinner or B.Pay $20 to take a water taxi over. You can try to use a kayak or outrigger canoe to get yourself over to the island, but it is far, and you end up hitting/running into coral. Needless to say we didn't make it over because it started to storm! Those types of things really make a honeymoon memorable. All in all, we were sad to leave such a beautiful island and would be back in a heartbeat. It seems like a honeymoon of a lifetime!! A little advice, it gets a little cool at night, so remember your jacket/sweatshirt!

The Sofitel Marara was a dream come true. It has just reopened and the amenities are top notch. We were greeted at the airport by a representative from the hotel who transported us to the hotel by boat. Upon arrival we were greeted by musicians, and given a cool washcloth and glass of cold juice. We checked in and were taken to our enormous overwater bungalow. The room itself was great with the king bed facing a gigantic window looking out over the lagoon to the nearby motu. The glass panel in the floor allowed us see the coral reef and fish below our bungalow. We had a sun deck that was large enough to hold 2 lounge chairs, a coffee table, and a table with 2 chairs. A pandamus canopy covered a portion of it. Stairs led down to a lower deck with shower and ladder into the lagoon. The food was great, both at the hotel and at the 2 restaurants we went to - Bloody Mary's and Fare Manuia. We went on a great 4x4 tour, and the hotel helped us to set up a shark/ray feeding excursion with a picnic on a motu (an experience I will never forget).

Bora-Bora is called the most beautiful island in the world and it lives up to exactly that. Although in comparision...it is expensive when you think of different places to honeymoon. But you only have 1 first honeymoon so we decided it was worth it. I would recommend buying a package that includes meals or at least some of them. Food at the resort is very expensive. If you choose not to get a package deal there are many palces to go out to eat. Try finding local places..even though they dont have the upgrades that most restuarants have..the food is well worth it. One favorite of locals and visitors as well as many famouse stars is 'Bloody Mary's'...by far the best one on the island. The atmosphere alone is worth it. You take your shoes off at the door and it has sand floors. Before you are even seated, you are taken to a table where you choose the main entree. There are different fish, steak, chicken and othe seafood's that you choose from. You tell them how you want it fixed and what you want with it. I had the Moonfish and would recommend it to anyone. It was fabulous. And if you are looking for something to do as in excursions..we did the Shark/Stingray excursion and it was the most amazing thing. You dont get real close to the sharks, but the stingrays will swim right up to you, and they are so gentle and the softest thing I have ever touched. Shopping is a must, and you can catch a bus to go downtown. The Black Pearl is a specialty and is only found in Tahiti. So if you can get one I reccommend it, all the jewelry is one of a kind. I must warn you about the heat though. Because you are south of the equator the heat is very different. It is the hottest earlier in the day as compared to the states where it gets hottest after noon or so. Other than that, just enjoy the beauty, your partner and celebrate you marriage.
