On Bora Bora, we had a Beach Suite with a huge private Jacuzzi; it was beautiful, beautiful! White sand beach and gorgeous sunsets, we were really in paradise, and thought it couldn't get better. Then we were on to the Le Taha'a Private Island Resort & Spa and we were blown away. Luxurious! We were treated like royalty. We had a gorgeous bungalow over the water facing the sunset... Amazing. I wish I were still there!

This resort is located on its own separate motu and is name one of the leading small hotels of the world. We arrived by boat from the airport (as with all Bora Bora hotels), and were greeted with flower leis at the airport and then taken to the resort. Our check-in forms were brought to us, along with cool cloths and glasses of delicious fruit juice. The concierge personally checked us in, then gave us info on the resort, and to our bungalow. We stayed in a premium garden pool bungalow—all I can say is WOW! The bungalow, like all the bungalows we were in, was completely private-this one surrounded by a fence w/ the pool in a YARD, w/ table outside! The room itself was gorgeous, and the bathroom unique-w/ the shower outside and a little crab who greeted us every morning while we showered! My husband hated that it was outside, but I loved it---where else can you shower outside naked without worrying about someone coming in on you?! I didn’t experience any bugs, either! The only problem we had was w/ the hot water—which we had at both Pearl Beach Resorts. When we called, the person said she’d check (we didn’t discover the problem until about 6 pm the first night) and call us back. She didn’t, so we called back. She said that they’d fix it the next day. They did come the next day after we called again. When we complained to the public relations manager Laura?, she was very gracious and sorry about our experience-we were comped for the Theater dinner that night and our water was fixed. Like in Moorea, the bungalows are all air-conditioned, and also have ceiling fans. Turn down service every night and legends on the pillow every night. The service was generally good, but as w/ most places, the staff was on island time—we didn’t care b/c where do we have to be but relaxing?! The food here was amazing-the breakfast was the best buffet out of the 3 islands we were on—fully stocked w/ anything you wanted! The dinners were fabulous as well, and for happy hour, where drinks are buy 1 get 1 (or ½ price, I never figured it out b/c we always ordered the same thing!), they give you the BEST appetizers for free-the first night it was tuna tartare, the second it was fresh spring rolls and I forget what it was the other nights! The bar overlooks a view of the main island, and at sunset, when the happy hour was, it was the perfect end of the day and beginning of the night! Overall the resort was wonderful, and though the service in general could be improved, I would still recommend the hotel as a great option in Bora Bora. They had a tiki theater show w/ dinner one night (I think they occur on Mondays and Fridays?)-which was fun, but not nearly as good as the one in Moorea. It is extra $ for that dinner compared to other dinners (but this is the one they comped us), so if you have to choose b/t the two, go to the one on Moorea.

Tahiti seemed to have a particular aura about it that we didn't think we could find on more popular islands like Hawaii. After we were told it would be like Hawaii before all the tourists came, we were sold. Our agent booked through Brendan travel, which took a few returned faxes to get right. The difficulty stemmed from our island hopping, which covered Moorea, Bora Bora and Ta'haa, our meal plan, and our activities. But once we got it all set up, the trip was a breeze. We didn't have to worry about a thing, which was perfect, considering all the stress that came with the wedding. The Polynesian people are arguably some of the most pleasant in the world. We actually tired of saying 'Ia Orana (yo-rah-nah)' (hello) to everyone! We ate some of the best French food, slept on super beds, and seamlessly transferred ourselves and our luggage from island to island. Mostly our days were filled with tanning, snorkeling, sleeping, eating and doing what else newlyweds do. The resorts had free rental of kayaks, badminton or ping pong and snorkeling gear. We decided not to sign up for too many activities so we could mostly relax. One of my favorite activities was the shark and ray feeding. You actually are in the water when the guides feed them. And I am too terrified to watch 'Jaws.' An older gentleman nearly drowned (not that it was unsafe; he had recently had surgery) and had to be life-flighted out of there. It really put a damper on the moment, but then again, I felt that if an emergency were to arrive out there in the middle of the ocean, we would have good help. We also took a guided tour of Moorea to learn the history of the islands, and we were supposed to go for a jungle jeep ride in Bora Bora but I got sick so I don’t know if it was good or not! My sickness was some sort of stomach ailment, I believe from a salad with mayonnaise, or maybe the fruit. The water from the tap, they said, was safe. I had to make several trips to the toilet, and it got so bad one day that I couldn't even stand up. At least I had one of the most beautiful views in the world. My poor husband spent a day snorkeling alone... We stayed 10 days, 9 nights, which I thought got a little on the long side, but I'm a workaholic. Maybe 7 nights is best. We spent four nights in a “garden bungalow” off the water (but it had its own dipping pool) to save some money and then got the “over water bungalows” the rest of the time. It was amazing to wake up and step into the ocean. Total traveling time from Kansas City took us about 24 hours with all the boats, busses and planes we took. It was exhausting. We ended up spending almost $10,000, which is quite a chunk of change. But I will never forget it. I actually feel myself there now, it was that real and that special. In fact, we have some friends who are getting married in September. They were going to go to Fiji and we actually changed their minds. They booked through Brendan and are even staying at our resort! We think they'll be pleased with their decision.
