08/11/2006   This was my wife and my first time in a Bed and Breakfast, and from our experience it certainly won't be our last. My wife (an avid knitter) wanted to go to a yarn fair in the area, so she surprised me and made a mini-vacation out of it. (Actually, sort of a belated honeymoon) The only requirement we had was to be allowed to bring our dog, Muttley. As it turned out we got very lucky on so many levels. We didn't realize just how popular this fair would be. There were no more rooms left in the area and we actually got the last one left in Whistlewood. It was a dream. Spacious and cozy, with a fireplace and whirlpool bath. Muttley was very welcome, and even had some friends. (The two Labs, belonging to Maggie, the owner) While my wife did her thing at the yarn fair, I took advantage of the time to have some quality quiet time. As Maggie is an exceptional baker, this was more than I could ever dream about. The breakfasts were sumptuous and staying in the lodge with its fireplace and table laden with goodies that I could indulge myself with all day (and night), was more than I could ask for. The fact that Maggie was so warm and welcoming just added to the ambience. There is also a marked nature trail, but as I was still recovering from a fractured toe, I couldn't take advantage of it. All in all, we would say that on a scale of 1-10, this experience would be a solid 10. It was exactly what we wanted and expected. A nice peaceful stay, where we could just unwind, relax and indulge ourselves.
