Second Honeymoon Giveaway
October 4, 2008
On our last day in Kauai, there was a whole lot we wanted to do, but with very limited time. There were still many restaurants left on “the list” but we could only pick one since we had to be at the airport by 8pm. We also had a lot of sightseeing to do. A few of the restaurants were closed for lunch, thus we decided to head over to Kapaa and try Ono Family Restaurant. My husband had a pork sandwich while I wanted some traditional breakfast. Unlike most folks here on the mainland, I love Spam! Yes, I said it “I love Spam!” I had the Spam with rice and eggs, fresh juice and delicious coffee. My husband loved his sandwich and I really enjoyed my breakfast.
Although we wanted to still do some sightseeing, we had still not bought any souvenirs from Hawaii and wanted to make sure to get that out of the way. We found a quaint fair in Kapaa that had everything we needed and more. We bought traditional Hawaiian jewelry, plates, knick-knacks and many goodies for our daughter such as cute dresses, coconut purses, and shirts. We were so captivated by the variety of things offered at the fair that we lost track of time. So, instead of going to Waimea Canyon, which I had originally planned, we decided to go for one last swim back at the beautiful Ka’e Beach, which was close to our hotel anyway.
Although our last swim was fast, we enjoyed every minute of it, except for the fact that I was being harassed by a particular fish. I am not kidding. My husband didn’t believe me either until I pointed out to him that this one fish was literally following me. That small fish had the same effect on me as if it were a great white. Perhaps because I have never been harassed by a fish, I had no idea how to react but it scared me. My husband asked me, “What’s the worse that the fish can do to you?” “I don’t know! Bite me?” baffled and in disbelief, my husband decided to swim elsewhere.
In the meantime, alone and scared, the fish called his buddies and next thing I knew, I was surrounded by 20 or more of the same fish. I screamed as if I had just been bitten by poisonous jellyfish and my husband promptly returned to my rescue. When I showed him the reason as to my fright, he was completely astonished. Yet, he could not help but laugh hysterically, “oh my God! He called his friends!”Although what would be a beautiful experience to any nature lover was lost on me, my husband would assure you that the friendly fish made for an exciting experience.
I took this as a sign that my trip to Kauai was over and that it was time to return back home. Thank you oh mischievous little fish- had it not been for you, I might have missed my flight to Los Angeles!
