Second Honeymoon Giveaway at the Hanalei Colony Resort, Kauai

Connie Costa & George Gomez - Winners of our 2008 Vacation Giveaway

Second HoneymoonWell over 4 years ago, as I was planning my dream wedding, I decided to enter every single wedding/honeymoon related contest I could find. I went to all the wedding conventions that existed and had lots of fun with it. Six months after I got married, I received an e-mail from a woman named Michelle from a company called Honeymooner’s Review Guide. She informed me I had won a second honeymoon to Kauai, Hawaii.

I was certain this was too good to be true- especially when I heard everything that it included: a five night stay at the beachfront Hanalei Colony Resort, a couple’s massage, a free romantic dinner, a private guided tour to the Limahuli Gardens and $500 spending cash. When Michelle was finally able to convince me that I had, indeed, won, I shared the news with my husband. We planned our second honeymoon for September 30th, 2008.

September 30, 2008

My husband and I arrived at the Lihue-Kauai airport late in the afternoon. From the city of Lihue to Hanalei is one of the most beautiful scenic drives I have ever experienced. We crossed the touristy town of Kapaa where I saw many interesting restaurants and shops.

There is only one main highway in Kauai and it wraps almost completely around the coast. Once we got to the city of Hanalei, we stopped at a shopping center to ask for directions to our resort. The funny thing was that while we were on the plane I was looking through the airline’s magazine and saw a picture of the most amazing looking ice cream. It was an ad for Luppert’s Ice Cream which can only be found in Hawaii. I immediately told my husband, “we HAVE TO go and eat that ice cream; I don’t care where we have to drive to, we must find a location!” And there we were, pulling into a Hanalei shopping center and randomly parked right in front of – yup, you guessed it! Luppert’s Ice Cream Shop! That was one of many serendipitous moments of the trip!

The ice cream itself was even better than it looked and we were served by an extremely sweet Hawaiian lady. Her excellent service was just one example of Hawaiians’ welcoming culture. We thanked her profusely and continued our journey.

It was pitch dark by the time we arrived at the hotel but we found it thanks to the great directions given by the nice lady at the ice cream shop. We checked into the hotel and proceeded to our condo. Our condo was a two-bedroom, two bathroom, living room, kitchen, veranda, ocean-front paradise. It had a quaint and comfortable atmosphere and feeling, much to my husband’s delight.

Waiting for us was a beautiful display of fresh cut Hawaiian flowers, Hawaiian chocolates, a bottle of champagne and a nice note welcoming us to the hotel. While I took a quick shower my husband lit up candles and poured the champagne. I was already in-love with this trip.
