Reasons to Travel to the British Virgin Islands
- Shipwreck Diving The BVI are considered one of the best diving sites in the world, particularly for shipwreck dives. The Wreck of the Rhone and Salt Island are favorite locations, but there are dozens to choose. For non-divers, the snorkeling is also phenomenal, especially Smuggler’s Cove. Sandy Spit, close to Green Cay on Jost Van Dyke Island is an idyllic place for snorkeling. Peter Island has good snorkeling and nearby Dead Chest Island is great for beginners.
- Boating Sailing and yachting are favorite pastimes in the BVI. Hop from island to island and stop at secluded beaches and cays. Boating is the best way to see the islands, without being surrounded by tons of people, you can discover your favorite spots. You can rent almost any size boat, charter a boat or take a tour to experience the islands by sea.
- Beaches Many of the beaches in the BVI are more challenging to locate, but well worth the effort. Most can be reached by boat or driving through rough terrain. Cane Garden Bay is a beautiful, white-sand beach and one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. You’ll find lots to do, bars, restaurants and a great time. Long Bay West and Long Bay East are both great beaches for relaxing and swimming. In Virgin Gorda, the beaches near the Baths are beautiful, including Spring Bay and Devil’s Bay. Savannah Bay or Jost Van Dyke’s White Bay are also good picks.
- Luxury Inns You won’t find any mega-resorts in the BVI, but you will find luxury at its finest. Stay at some of the top hotels in the Caribbean that have intimate charm and unparalleled service. There are also several resorts that are whole islands, where you can enjoy your stay with only a couple dozen other people.
- Fishing The British Virgin Islands have some of the best fishing in the Caribbean. You can go deep-sea or saltwater fly-fishing to try to catch a trophy fish. Many different tour groups offer excursions that will take you to the best locations for fishing.
